How to Deep Clean Your Bathroom Like a Pro

Deep cleaning your bathroom doesn’t just make it shine—it also helps eliminate germs, mold, and odors. While it may seem daunting, breaking the task into manageable steps ensures nothing gets overlooked. Whether you’re prepping for guests or just doing your monthly refresh, here’s how to deep clean your bathroom like a pro.

1. Gather Your Supplies

Before you start, have everything you need on hand:

  • Rubber gloves

  • Scrub brushes (including a toilet brush)

  • Microfiber cloths or sponges

  • Disinfectant cleaner or vinegar solution

  • Baking soda

  • Glass cleaner

  • Grout cleaner (or a vinegar/baking soda mix)

  • Bucket or mop

  • Old toothbrush

2. Start with Decluttering

Clear everything off countertops, shelves, and the floor. Remove rugs, towels, shower curtains, and any items from the tub or shower. Toss linens into the laundry and shake out floor mats outside.

3. Dust and Sweep

Using a microfiber cloth or duster, wipe down light fixtures, vents, window sills, and baseboards. Then sweep or vacuum the floors to remove dust, hair, and debris. Dust before spraying any cleaner to prevent streaks.

4. Clean the Shower and Tub

Apply your cleaner of choice to the tub and shower walls and let it sit for 10–15 minutes. For tough soap scum and mildew, a paste of baking soda and vinegar or a commercial bathroom cleaner works well. Scrub with a stiff brush, especially around grout lines and corners. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.

5. Tackle the Toilet

Pour toilet bowl cleaner or vinegar inside the bowl and let it sit while you clean the rest of the toilet. Use disinfectant wipes or spray to clean the tank, handle, seat, and outer base. Then scrub the bowl with a toilet brush, making sure to reach under the rim. Flush to rinse.

6. Sink and Countertops

Spray disinfectant on the sink basin, faucet, and countertops. Let it sit for a minute, then scrub and rinse. Use an old toothbrush around faucet bases and drain edges to get into tight spots. Dry everything with a clean microfiber cloth to avoid water spots.

7. Mirrors and Glass

Spray glass cleaner (or a vinegar-water mix) on mirrors and shower doors. Wipe in a circular motion with a lint-free cloth or paper towel. For heavy buildup on shower glass, use a mixture of baking soda and water to gently scrub, then rinse.

8. Clean the Floors

Mop the floors with a disinfecting cleaner or a vinegar-water solution. Pay close attention to corners and behind the toilet. If your grout is stained, scrub with a grout cleaner and brush.

9. Finishing Touches

  • Wipe down cabinet doors and handles

  • Replace clean towels and bath mats

  • Rehang the shower curtain or liner

  • Empty and clean the trash can

  • Add a subtle air freshener or essential oil diffuser

A professional-level deep clean doesn’t require fancy tools—just attention to detail and the right routine. Doing this once a month keeps your bathroom looking and feeling fresh, safe, and sanitary.
